Getting in the New Groove

I feel like (compared to summer) I've been running around with my head cut off. Really-I am not that busy but it feels like it between school and extra activities, we are busy!! Not much to report but I thought I'd update the blog with a little of this and that.

Last Saturday we got to go to the Special Olympics Softball Tournament with the youth in our church. I brought my family along and they loved cheering for the competitors. Make noise?? They are totally up for that:)

The kid's favorite babysitter--Allie!!!

Same day, we had Jane's first soccer game. She did really well considering the HEAT!! This has been a very hot/humid summer.

My mother gave us jobs as a kid. I am trying to implement that in our daily routine, but it's tough. I don't know how we've let ourselves get so busy but there seems to be no time for jobs. They do have to make their beds every morning. I don't know why, but I think it's cute how well they do for their age.

Jane's:

Tobe's:

and Aly's:)

Tobe's teacher comments every day when I pick him up. She's really nice and keeps saying, "He'll be fine!!" but every comment worries me. "He needs to work on his listening skills", "He needs to work on his writing skills." "Has he had fine motor problems?"

So I have taken on the challenge of working with him everyday before Jane comes home from school. He is doing so well. We work on his letter writing and some sight words. He even practices all on his own at night. I think it is finally clicking and he is proud of himself. I'm very proud of him.

His school work that led to the fine motor comment (we have since used to to practice so it looks much better than it did):

His sights words that he knows:

His letter writing:

It's hard work being a mom, but it is so nice and rewarding when your efforts pay off. That Tobe--darn him--he just has a hold of my heart!!

He will be fine!! It will take some extra effort but as the teacher said, "he'll be fine." When it is all said and done, the real question will be - "Will Mom (you) be fine??" ha ha...

Love Aly's bed. Make your bed or Pile your blankets... same thing.

Love the humid hair of Jane at soccer. I HATE HUMIDITY!!!!

Tobe is sooo wonderful! He WILL be fine! He's lucky to have such a good mom! And it sounds like the teacher is loving him, too.

And I hear you about running around like crazy...

Ahhhh your post reminded me that I'm suppose to be working on sight words with my kindergartner. Every day she comes home, I look through her bag, the teacher has sent nothing home, so I think, we're good! Woops!

Also, where did you get the Toby's bedding, I am doing those exact colors in my son's room.

Gwen--we got the bedding at Target. I think they still have similar colors, if not the exact bedding.

Thanks for the hit. I miss the kiddos. Tobe has everyone's heart. He is a very special spirit. Keep working with him. You are a good mommy. It will make all the difference. I am glad that he has a teacher that cares.

love the bed making skills! I should do that for my girls. We've been trying to teach them how to make their beds, and well, they look like Ali's. :) If you are interested, I have been making Sienna practice writing her letters everyday and have created some practice sheets with the letters in dots for her to follow...I can email them to you if you'd like...unless Tobe is beyond that now, and just need to practice writing them on his own. Let me know, you have my contact info.
