Gingerbread Houses

Every year in Utah, the whole family gets together to decorate Christmas cookies.  We obviously missed it this year so we created our own family festivity and decorated our gingerbread house.  I think they enjoyed eating the decoration rather than decorating but it was still fun.

Then we went to get our shoes on and found Aly sneaking a bite:)

After we made our Gingerbread house we drove through the neighborhood to find the best decorated house.  It was a toss up between the house with a big blow up Thomas the Train or the house that had EVERY blow up character along with lights and the manger scene.  Jane chose that one because it had baby Jesus.  We had bought a Gingerbread kit to give them as their award.  Brett and Jane doorbell ditched them and left their surprise.

Then it was back to the house for the best part.  To eat the Gingerbread house.

I think the kids had a good time and it got my mind off of being so homesick.

Don't be homesick Amanda. The experiences in Indiana will enrich your life, which will in turn enrich the lives of all who know you. Your "people" (as my kids say) are only a phone call, email, blog, car or plane ride away. And, being away from those back home allows you to really establish your own traditions and celebrate your immediate family's "togetherness". You will become an even closer Hatch family. Happy Holidays. AH

At least you are getting out and doing fun things with your kids, I am sure that has to help a little with the transition. You are such a cute mom!

Do you get to come home for Christmas at all? You are doing great. Later you will remember and like your family time. I am tending Becky's 2 kids and the baby wants to be held ALOT. She is darling!

that's fun you let the kids eat the gingerbread house...i noticed a few pieces somehow were missing off of ours a few days after we made it. then our roof fell off so we had to use hot glue to put it back together~hopefully noone tries to snitch anymore of it!

glad things are going well in indiana. i had to take a double take because i thought i was in that photo at dinner with you at first-weird.

oh, and one more thing--you are the best unpacker ever. i can't believe your house looks so homey and even decorated for christmas already! i'm still emptying boxes!

miss you! :)

I think it's awesome you are carrying on these traditions. How fun! I've been wanting to make a gingerbread house with the kids. I love the doorbell ditching prize too. We may have to copy your idea if you don't mind. Too cute!

How Fun! I hope you are doing well. While your homesick for Utah, I am a little homesick for Indiana. I hope you have a Merry Christmas and we will see you in a couple weeks.
