LIVESTRONG

I haven't posted much about my mom lately because we are still waiting to begin the treatment.  She should be contacted Thursday of this week to get more information as to when she will begin the treatment and also what form it will be in.  We are all, especially her, anxious to start the fight.
I bought my whole family these wristbands to wear because we are all in this fight together.
I have a few left over and thought I would give them away through this blog.  So for those of you interested in winning a LIVESTRONG wristband just leave a comment on this post before Sunday, May 25th.  Now you can't just leave any comment, I want to hear a true success story of someone you know or have heard of that has won the battle against cancer.  We love to hear the success stories because it gives us hope.
Have your friends, families, and fellow bloggers leave a comment as well.  I have 10 bracelets so your chances of winning are high.
Thanks again for all of your support.

So I don't need a bracelet, so count me out of that, but I do want to show my support. We are praying for a success story. Live Strong Kathy!

Hi Amanda,
You don't have to send me a bracelet, but I just wanted you to know I was thinking of you and your family. My brother was diagnosed with testicular cancer after he had just been married about a year. He was in med school and actually diagnosed himself after learning about that particular cancer. We were all devistated and sick with worry. I know how that word "cancer" rips at the center of your gut. Now, after various treatments he has been cancer free for about four years. Hang in there and don't give up. There are wonderful new treatments available. Don't give up on your hope and faith and know that your friends are thinking and praying for you and your mom.

My sister in law is a fighter. When she was 19, she got engaged to my brother in law. When she went in for her first doctor's appointment, they found that she had cervical cancer. She says that her husband saved her life twice-once wheh he asked her to marry him and another, when he stayed with her and supported her every step of the way through this dreaded cancer. She was told that she would never have children. However, she has been married for almost 20 years, has four amazing children that she and her husband have adopted, and she runs marathons. She is my hero. Twenty years and cancer free! She is one of my inspirations. I could not imagine life without her.

Amanda, I hope you don't mind that I read your blog. When Jenna told me about your mom I just wanted to let you know that she and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. My aunt was diagnosed with Melanoma about 12 years ago. She had 4 small children at the time and the news was devistating. It was found on her nose and there was suspision that it had penetrated deeper and farther than they could contain, but she underwent treatment and removal anyway. The surgery left some ugly scars and she is still self conscience about them but she has been cancer free ever since. It is hard to watch her have to go through checkups and the constant worry of it coming back, but because of her we are all more aware of the dangers that can cause Melanoma and who knows if that has saved some of the rest of us! I don't want a bracelet, I just wanted to let you know that I am thinking about you and your family :)

I have a wristband and I took it off a while ago, this has given me the inspiration to put it back on again and help support you and your family with your mom's fight. We are still praying really hard for you guys. Best of luck on the treatments!!

It truly is amazing how far they have come with cancer treatments, amazing miracles can occur because of this. I have three friends who have had parents or a child w/different forms of cancer that have been cancer free for a short period of time but I believe they do have years of good health to come.

All of the comments on this thing made me cry. I pray so much for your mom. I love the hope that you and your family have. I pray that with the hope and faith of all those that love you and your family that the Lord will bless your mom greatly. The only success story I have is my mom. She was a fighter and is still going strong, as you know. Go Kathy, fight hard!! We love you!!

That was 7 years ago and he is Healthy and happy today..

Hi there, this is Kirsten McNelly and I am Dawn's former sister in law. I have two stories to share. One is of a woman who I know who was diagnosed with the deadliest form of brain cancer- glioblastoma, and was given months to live. A year and a half later, she is still with us! Doctors, while very helpful (of course), don't always get it right! Also, I met with a woman not long ago who just learned that she had significant bladder/bowel cancer. She had surgery, was forced to wear colostomy (sp) bags, and was in terrible pain...and she was the most cheerful woman I have come across in a very long time. Her fight, like your mom's, is just beginning- but what a lesson for the rest of us to see the courage that cancer patients have in the face of such a challenge. It reminds me that my day to day "misery" of everyday life, going to work, cleaning the house, working in the yard, raising children...is actually a blessing not to be taken for granted. I truly wish you and your family the best.

You know my family's story, but I will say that even being able to "buy" time is a success to me. And I never cared what the doctor's said about my mom-she fought and fought and fought and she got 11 years longer then they told her. There is something to be said about Faith, courage, postitive attitude and will to live that the doctors don't know much about...You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers...live strong and LIVE LONG...

What a great idea, Amanda!

I don't know if I ever told you, but my stepdad had Hodgkin's lymphoma when he was in college. He was on a track scholarship at Northeastern University. Picture of health... He went through radiation treatments and has been cancer free ever since. A childhood friend of his was also diagnosed with Hodgkin's just a few years after his battle with it. He was a great source of strength to her, and she beat it too!

I hope these stories bring you and your family strength!!! Love ya!

Your mom will be the success story that you later share with those who are going through what you are right now. Our prayers are always with you.
